| We are a chinchilla rescue located just north of grand rapids, in Cedar Springs MI. Here at CHINtuition we have one goal, the safe and ethical care & handling of chinchillas, whether it be a chinny that needs immediate rescue from a bad situation or to help a chin owner that for one reason or another can no longer care for there chin, this is not a public warehouse, but rather private family homes where every chin is given equal time as far as 1 on 1 attention playtime and of course the ever important snack-time. All chins are fed quality pellets as well as clean fresh hay & water We strive to give every animal the care love and affection it deserves, whether it be 1 of our own chins or a rescued chin. Every chin will spend a minimum of 30 days here so as to insure a healthy well adapted forever pet in a forever home,, |

| My name is Lisa and my motivation in starting CHINtuition became apparent last year when i rescued two chins from a local family. When i was approached by the family as to my interest in taking these two chins, i was to say the least happy as i knew the 2 of them where being kept in a very unhealthy situation, well when i went to get them the cage the had been kept in was filthy and also had about 3 inches of cat litter in the bottom, and as far as the chins they looked as if a dust bath had never been part of there lives while living with this family, there food consisted of what looked to be bird food with some corn and other non chin foods, the male was a pink-white & his mate was a beige. Now both of these chins where roughly 6 months of age and in not to good of shape, well first thing was a clean new cage clean fresh water and something we found out later they never had,, clean fresh timothy hay i was undecided on the food situation as i didn't want them eating anymore bird seed so i gave them a 1/3 cup off pellets in hopes of not really making to much of a problem for them, well they both enjoyed both pellets and hay i then gave them a dust bath but they both acted like they knew nothing of this strange blue thing with the funny powder in it well the male was first to venture into the bath container & after my husband put a few handfuls of dust on him he got the hint and began his rolling and digging in the dust. The female took her leads from her mate,, well after a long night of getting these two sweet chins settled in we finally got to retire.the next morning i was awakened by my husband with the news that the female had passed in the night apparently according to the vet she had basically starved to death as her system had shut down from the poor food she had been eating . I was devastated to say the least, but i also realized that i needed to do more to help. As i knew there are way to many chins in need of help and also that there are people who need to be taught the most basic of chin care and handling. And i feel if i can save any chin from living in misery or i can help to find a forever loving home for a chin, then my endeavors have been worth every second i have put forth into helping these amazing wonderful animals,,,, |
